Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, illegal and adulterants are becoming more prevalent. Before Ramadan, illegal fortified palm oil and soybean oil were being prepared in gorgeous, shiny packages in Demra, Dhaka.
On Monday, the illicit business was apprehended in the BSTI mobile court. The BSTI mobile court executive magistrate, Kaniz Fatema Liza, confiscated and destroyed all of these items and fined the company two lakh taka.
A company called Al Aqsa Good Food Limited in Amulia Model Town, Demra, was observed bottling fortified soybean oil and fortified palm olein products of the Afan brand without a BSTI license, according to a press release from BSTI. This was observed during the mobile court’s operation. By using BSTI’s quality mark and phony QR codes on product packaging, the company has been unlawfully marketing, selling, and distributing the goods. The business keeps a lot of edible oil on hand.
The BSTI Director General said that a type of unscrupulous traders are becoming active ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. We are also vigilant about such unlicensed companies and mobile courts are being conducted every day. BSTI’s mobile court and surveillance team are more active ahead of Ramadan. To avoid counterfeit and counterfeit products, he urged people to scan the QR code provided by BSTI on the product packaging and confirm the BSTI license before purchasing the product.
It is worth noting that BSTI Field Officer Engineer ANM Farhad Hossain acted as the prosecutor in the said mobile court.
