An interim workshop titled “Assessment of Best Practices in Building Materials” was held on Wednesday, November 28 at the seminar room of the LGED Headquarters. The workshop was organized by the Climate Resilient Local Infrastructure Center (CReLIC) under the Climate Resilient Infrastructure Mainstreaming Project (CRIMP) implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).
Salma Shahid Additional Chief Engineer of LGED and Director of CReLIC presided over the workshop. In her presidential address, she stated that the quality and sustainable use of construction materials are crucial for building climate-resilient infrastructure. Considering the geographical and environmental characteristics of different regions across the country best practices in selecting suitable building materials must be identified and applied across all relevant levels of LGED.
Md. Belal Hossain Chief Engineer of LGED graced the occasion as the chief guest. He remarked that this study is a timely initiative for LGED. To address the risks of climate change and construct sustainable infrastructure, there is no alternative to using locally accessible, eco-friendly and quality construction materials. Furthermore through this initiative by CReLIC best practices in building material utilization can be effectively disseminated to the field level.
During the workshop representatives from the consulting firm appointed for the assignment EQMS Consulting Limited including Team Leader Prof. Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Senior Materials Specialist Md. Golam Mawla and Project Coordinator Pratyay Majumder delivered their presentations via PowerPoint.
The workshop was attended by LGED’s Additional Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers, Project Directors of various projects, Executive Engineers, Senior Assistant Engineers, along with Md. Abdul Khaleque Project Director of CRIMP-CReLIC and Fatema Ismat Ara Executive Engineer of CReLIC.
