Letter to the Trade Advisor to dissolve the Board of BGMEA.

There has been a demand to dissolve the Board of Directors of BGMEA, an association of garment industry owners. BGMEA’s election-centric alliance forum has written to Finance and Commerce Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed demanding dissolution of the organization’s board, formation of interim board, preparation of transparent voter list and fair and acceptable elections.

Rashid Ahmed Hossaini, secretary general of the forum, gave this letter yesterday on Monday.

He claimed in the letter that because of the high-level interference of the outgoing Awami League government, BGMEA, like other trade organizations, was not run independently and democratically for more than a decade. Elections have been rigged by using fake voters and fake votes and taking over polling stations with external party terrorists.

In the letter, the forum also said that BGMEA president SM Mannan is not attending the office of the organization after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in a student uprising. Such absence is sufficient evidence of complicity or complicity with the outgoing government. Even SM Mannan has been accused of being involved in aggression against the students’ movement.

Rashid Ahmed Hossaini, secretary general of the forum, demanded the dissolution of the current board of BGMEA as per Section 17 of the Trade Organizations Act 2022. At the same time, he demanded to investigate and bring the corrupt people within the organization to justice.
