Janata Bank’s 18th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held

Janata Bank PLC convened its 18th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, July 13, at its headquarters in Motijheel, presided over by the bank’s Chairman, Muhd Fazlur Rahman. During the meeting, it was reported that Janata Bank’s total deposits at the close of December 2024 amounted to Tk 1,09,810 crore, achieving 95.49 percent of the set target. The bank’s total assets reached Tk 1,47,137 crore, reflecting a growth of 6.08 percent. The volumes of imports and exports were recorded at Tk 43,325 crore and Tk 8,155 crore, respectively. The foreign remittance sector generated Tk 20,289 crore, marking the highest earnings among state-owned banks. In this period, Tk 303 crore was recovered from classified loans, alongside Tk 66 crore from written-off loans. The introduction of new products with appealing profit margins and the execution of special deposit collection initiatives led to an increase in the number of depositors by 520,000, bringing the total to approximately 98 lakh.

Managing Director Md. Mujibur Rahman presented an overview of the various business sectors of the bank during the general meeting. The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary of the Financial Institutions Department Md. Azimuddin Biswas, NDC, Bank Director Badre Munir Ferdous, Dr. Md. Abdus Sabur, Abdul Majid Sheikh, A. K. M. Khabir Uddin Chowdhury, Abdul Awal Sarkar, Dr. Md. Shahadat Hossain, Md. Ahsan Kabir, Md. Kausar Alam, Md. Obaidul Haque, as well as the Deputy Managing Directors and General Managers of the bank. The session was facilitated by the Company Secretary of the bank, Md. Abdul Alim Khan.

In his speech, Chairman of the bank Muh. Fazlur Rahman said that Janata Bank has launched an app-based world-class modern banking service, e-Janta. Without a checkbook, money can be withdrawn from any branch of the bank through e-Janata apps by scanning the QR code on an Android mobile. There is also the facility to send money to any bank, pay DPS and loan installments. There is also the facility to send money to bKash or Nagad wallet.

Managing Director Md. Mujibur Rahman said that in 2024, Janata Bank deposited a total of Tk 1,560 crore in VAT and excise duty to the government treasury, which is Tk 123 crore more than the previous year. In addition, Janata Capital and Investment Limited, a subsidiary of Janata Bank, earned an operating profit of Tk 17 crore.
