The use of VPN is not illegal in Bangladesh as it is not banned in the country yet. Besides, there has no way to stop using it for technical reasons. The use has also not associated any risk to connect to the Internet world.
The trend of getting personal devices connect with Virtual Private Network (VPN) is rising as the authority unofficially blocked down popular social media Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, messaging and calling app WhatsApp.
Habibun Nesa Noor, a tech entrepreneur told Business Mirror that “Young generation as well other tech based people have developed daily life with the use of connectivity of different social media, they also engaged diverse business ventures with using social media. For which the tech generation has come up with searching alternatives and VPN is the safest and popular answer of it,”.
Media like Facebook can be said to be the daily companion of internet users regardless of class-profession-age-gender. Many people are dependent on these media in the present age for communication, institutional work, business ventures, promotion, Atifun Laila, another tech influencer said . “The main issue is habit. People will choose the option to use Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or WhatsApp. That option is VPN,” She added.
The use of VPNs is seen when access to these media is restricted or blocked in a certain geographical area. Because VPN creates a virtual network with another country or region using Internet Protocol. Certain websites are not blocked in that region. As a result, when the server sees that the user did not come from a closed or blocked network, it allows him access to that site. That’s why VPN apps or services gain popularity at different times for different reasons.
One thing is easy to understand, why so many VPNs are being used from Bangladesh now. The main reason for this is that social media including Facebook has been closed in the country.
Ariful Islam, President, Ultra Network told Business Mirror that VPN is a legitimate technology. “VPN is used to use the internet safely and ensure data security. Suppose there are two branches of the same office in Gulshan and Dhanmondi. Or a computer network should be built between two branches in Dhaka and Chittagong or two countries. Building this network through physical infrastructure or cables is very expensive, in some cases impossible. So the network is built based on the internet. That is the virtual network.” Ariful explained
Private means personal. That is, the network that was developed based on the Internet Protocol, will be used for specific purposes. It will not be connected to public or open networks. As a result, files or data can be exchanged in a secure and controlled manner. So Ariful said said, the main purpose of VPN is to provide security in the cyber world. VPNs reduce rather than increase cyber risk.
