India bans import of Bangladeshi jute goods

BM Desk :  India prohibited the import of various jute products and woven fabrics from Bangladesh over all land routes, permitting entry only through the Nhava Sheva seaport in Maharashtra, as tensions between the two nations grew.
No land port on the India-Bangladesh border will permit imports from Bangladesh. However, in a notification released on Friday, June 27, India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) stated that it is only permitted via the Nhava Sheva harbor.

“Imports of certain items from Bangladesh to India are regulated with immediate effect,” the notification stated.

Jute products, flax waste and tow, jute and other bast fibers, single and multiple jute yarns, flax-woven fabrics, and unbleached jute-woven fabrics are among the prohibited items, according to the Times of India.
Additionally, the DGFT made it clear that Bangladeshi commodities traveling to Nepal and Bhutan via India would not be subject to these limitations.
Re-exporting these goods from Bangladesh to India through Nepal and Bhutan is prohibited, nevertheless.

This is the third limitation of this kind in recent months. Similar port restrictions were placed by India on May 17 on Bangladeshi imports, including processed foods and ready-made clothing.
