Import of 310 tons of rice in duty free facilities.

Import of rice through Benapole land port in Jessore has started after the withdrawal of customs duties. After two years, the first shipment of rice arrived in three trucks from India on Monday (November 18) around 2 pm. Abu Taher, the Revenue Officer of Cargo Branch of Benapole Customs House, confirmed this information.

He said, last Saturday, 105 metric tons of importing company Mahabubul Alam Food Products, 105 metric tons of Mahabubul Alam Food Products, and 100 metric tons of Ork Trading were passed. Out of this 310 metric tons of rice, 105 metric tons of rice in one shipment entered Benapole port on Monday.

An importing company named ‘Mahabubul Alam Food Products’ of Jessore imported 105 metric tons (1 lakh 5 thousand kg) of non-basmati rice in three trucks in the first shipment from an exporting company named ‘Sudharam Ayat Nirayat Private Limited’ of West Bengal, India.

Another 105 MT of importer Mahbubul Alam Food Products and 100 MT of rice from Ork Trading are due to enter Benapole port today.

Three C&F agents namely Hussain & Sons, Milon Enterprises and Abedin Enterprises are in charge of rice unloading from Benapole port.

Hemant Kumar Sarkar, deputy assistant of plant contamination center of Benapole land port, said that the Indian government has banned the export of parboiled and parboiled rice outside the country from July 20, 2023. Before that, the import of rice from India through this port was stopped from November 2022. At that time, a 62 percent tariff was imposed on rice to discourage rice imports. Since then no more rice was imported through Benapole land port.
