The Hili Land Port in Dinajpur, recognized as the second largest land port in the country, commenced the export of various products to India starting June 30 of the current fiscal year. This initiative has led to an increase in foreign exchange earnings within the export sector compared to the previous year. To date, 2,091 tons of products have been sent to India, generating $1,710,500 for the Bangladesh government.
In recent years, there had been no exports to India through this port. However, a range of products is now being exported. While Hili Land Port primarily relies on imports, the volume of exports is steadily rising. Approximately 70 percent of the products exported through this port are imported from India. Currently, various bakery items, including rice bran (bran oil), toast biscuits, mango juice, jhoot kapur, and noodles, are being exported from Hili Port. Between June 30 and August 20 of this year, 2,091 tons of products were exported, resulting in an income of 17 lakh 10 thousand 500 dollars, which is roughly 18 crores in Bangla Taka.
Ferdous Rahman, President of the BanglaHili C&F Agent Association, stated that in addition to the government’s revenue, many workers are making a living by working at this land port. Traders at the port are optimistic that the volume of exports will further increase if certain issues within India are addressed.
Meanwhile, Nizam Uddin, Revenue Officer of Hili Customs, mentioned that although exports had been halted through Hili Land Port for an extended period, various products are now being exported to India. No products were exported since February 25 of this year, but after a four-month hiatus, exports resumed on June 30. The customs department is providing all necessary cooperation.
