Govt targets lower inflation higher growth in FY2026-27 budget

The government has set a target to reduce inflation to 7.5 percent and raise economic growth to 6.5 percent in the upcoming FY2026-27 national budget.

The budget proposal was presented in Parliament under the chairmanship of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and in the presence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. It is the country’s 55th national budget and the first budget presented by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury under the current government’s tenure.

In line with constitutional requirements, the budget was approved by the Cabinet before being placed in Parliament and later received assent from President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

The new fiscal year will officially begin on July 1, 2026.
