B Mirror Report: The government has taken extensive preparations to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across Bangladesh during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holidays, officials from the Power Division said.
Authorities have strengthened monitoring of electricity generation, transmission, and distribution systems nationwide, while emergency response teams have been kept ready to address any technical disruptions quickly.
Power Division Secretary Mirana Mahrukh said all necessary measures have already been taken to maintain stable power supply throughout the Eid vacation.
“We have instructed all distribution companies to remain fully prepared, and the ministry is directly monitoring the overall power situation,” she told BSS.
Officials said sufficient electricity generation capacity has been arranged to meet the expected increase in demand during the festive period. Power plants across the country have been directed to operate at optimum levels to maintain stability in the national grid.
Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Member for Generation Md Johurul Islam said electricity demand during Eid is expected to remain between 12,000 and 13,000 megawatts.
He noted that although some power generation units are currently undergoing scheduled maintenance, fuel-based plants are being operated to meet peak demand.
According to BPDB officials, regular online coordination meetings are being held with distribution companies to monitor the overall situation. Engineers have also been deployed across four BPDB zones to ensure rapid response in case of storms, technical faults, or other emergencies.
The BPDB said electricity management generally becomes easier during Eid holidays because industrial and commercial demand declines significantly, allowing authorities to maintain stable supply in residential areas.
As part of the preparations, vulnerable transmission lines and substations have already been inspected and necessary maintenance work completed.
Special control rooms will remain operational before, during, and after Eid, with engineers, linemen, and technical teams on standby around the clock for emergency response.
The Power Division has also directed senior officials of all power-related agencies to closely monitor electricity conditions in their respective areas and submit regular reports to the ministry during the holiday period.
Major distribution companies including Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC), Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO), Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB), and Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO) have formed dedicated monitoring teams to ensure uninterrupted service.
Meanwhile, the Power Division has urged consumers to avoid unnecessary electricity consumption and advised prepaid meter users to recharge their meters in advance to avoid inconvenience during the Eid holidays.
