Government to pay Beximco workers Tk 525.46 crore

Today (February 27, 2025), Labor Advisor Brigadier General (Retd.) Sakhawat Hossain held a press conference at the Secretariat to announce the payment of dues to Beximco Industrial Park workers.

According to him, the payment of wages to 31,669 employees of the 14 Beximco Industrial Park establishments will begin on March 9, 2025, and the establishments will close on February 28.

The total amount owed to the employees is 525 crore 46 lakh taka, and three different funds will be used to pay this amount:

The Labor Ministry fund is worth 200 crore taka, the Bangladesh Bank fund is worth 200 crore taka, and the Finance Department has 325 crore 46 lakh taka.

There are 31,669 employees in these 14 establishments. These establishments’ operations will cease on February 28, but on March 9, the process of paying employees’ salaries will begin.

13 financial institutions have lent money to Beximco Industrial Park between 2008 and 2024. They will face legal action from the government. To take decisive action in this area, an advisory council committee has been established.

When asked about the current army chief, Brigadier Sakhawat Hossain responded, “The army chief is a very efficient and straightforward person.” He is always direct in his speech. Although I greatly admire him, I am unable to explain his private remarks.

About 32,000 workers’ long-term contributions will be covered by this payment of dues, and the government will take the necessary actions to ensure that their obligations are met.
