The government has decided to import 210,000 metric tons of various types of fertilizer. These will be imported from China, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia. The total expenditure for this import will be Tk 1,714.51 crore (Tk 17,145,191,480).
On Tuesday (September 30), the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, approved the proposals from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Industries in a meeting held at the Secretariat.
According to meeting sources:
The committee approved the Ministry of Agriculture’s proposal to import 40,000 tons of DAP fertilizer from Banyan International Trading Limited of China under a state-level agreement. The price per ton has been fixed at $772.50.
Another proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture to import 30,000 tons of TSP fertilizer from OCP Nutrients of Morocco was also approved. The cost for this shipment will be Tk 215.28 crore (Tk 2,152,843,740), with each ton priced at $585.33.
Additionally, under another state-level agreement, the committee approved another 30,000 tons of TSP fertilizer from the same Moroccan company, OCP Nutrients, at the same price of $585.33 per ton.
The Ministry of Agriculture also brought a proposal to import 40,000 tons of DAP fertilizer from OCP Nutrients of Morocco under a state-level agreement. This proposal was approved with each ton priced at $760.33.
Another similar proposal to import 40,000 tons of DAP fertilizer from Morocco under a government-level contract was also approved. This fertilizer will also be sourced from OCP Nutrients, priced at $760.33 per ton.
From the Ministry of Industries, a proposal was approved to import 30,000 tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer from SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company of Saudi Arabia. The price per ton has been fixed at $435.
