Government Announces Special Quota for Women in IT Sector

State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Junaid Ahmed Palak, has unveiled plans to introduce a special quota for women in the Information Technology (IT) sector. Speaking at the launch of the “She Stem Business Case” event in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Minister Palak emphasized the importance of eliminating gender disparity in STEM fields and creating an inclusive workplace environment.

Minister Palak highlighted the government’s efforts to empower women in technology, citing initiatives such as the establishment of the Sheikh Hasina Institute of Frontier Technology and the integration of women entrepreneurs into the Union Digital Centre project. He underscored the significance of ensuring equality between men and women in science and technology, echoing the vision set forth by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Furthermore, Minister Palak outlined plans to enhance technical skill development through collaborations between universities and private organizations. He emphasized the importance of STEM education in realizing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Vision 2041 and creating a more dynamic and inclusive workforce.

The announcement was met with support from various stakeholders, including A2I project director Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan and the Ambassador of the Netherlands, Irna van Durain. Both expressed their commitment to promoting gender equality in STEM fields and applauded Bangladesh’s efforts in this regard.

The introduction of a special quota for women in the IT sector signals a significant step towards fostering gender diversity and inclusivity in Bangladesh’s technology landscape, paving the way for greater opportunities and empowerment for women in STEM.
