Garment makers urged to help rebuild country.

Interim government chief advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus called on the country’s garment manufacturers to help rebuild the nation after 15 years of looting by Sheikh Hasina’s dictatorship .The chief adviser said the interim government had inherited a broken economy and now faced the difficult task of fixing the country and putting it on the path of growth.

Addressing the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) leaders at his office at the Rashtriya Guest House Yamuna, Professor Yunus said on Tuesday that all institutions have collapsed. We are in a state of chaos. They have left us in economic crisis. But with everyone’s cooperation we will be able to rebuild the country.

BGMEA President Khandaker Rafiqul Islam led a delegation of garment industry entrepreneurs along with BGMEA Vice President and Director.

The 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner said the country cannot fail. If so, the effect will be disastrous. The very existence of the nation may face a crisis .He urged garment manufacturers to keep their business away from politics, saying that you should send a clear message that you will not mix business with politics.

He said the student revolution that overthrew Sheikh Hasina’s brutal 15-year dictatorship was “unprecedented in human history”. “They have faith in us. I was abroad when they called me and asked me to take over the leadership of the country.

BGMEA leaders said, we fully support the leadership of Professor Yunus in this important moment of the nation. We demand the formation of a task force for this sector. Seeking the help of the interim government to restore the confidence of international buyers in Bangladesh. Professor Yunus said, we will ensure transparency at every level. People of Bangladesh have infinite talent. Bangladesh is the second largest garment exporter in the world. We want it to expand further.
