Foreigners in Bangladesh increase spending on credit cards

Transactions or spending by foreigners in Bangladesh increased in November through credit cards. Foreign citizens increased their spending in Bangladesh on credit cards by 56.93 percent during the month. Foreigners staying in Bangladesh spent Tk 202 crore through credit cards in November. This was Tk 129 crore in the previous month of October. Accordingly, the spending of foreigners increased by Tk 73 crore in November.

However, the total transactions on credit cards at home and abroad decreased in November. In that month, the total spending on credit cards outside the country was Tk 431 crore, which was Tk 499 crore in October. The total spending within the country in the same month was Tk 2,793 crore, which was Tk 2,866 crore in the previous month.

According to that account, within a month, transactions within the country decreased by 73 crores and outside the country decreased by 68 crores. As a percentage, in November, credit card transactions within the country decreased by 2.55 percent and outside the country decreased by 13.57 percent.

On the other hand, among foreign nationals staying in Bangladesh in November, US citizens spent the most in the country at Tk 540 million. This was followed by UK citizens at Tk 190 million, Indian citizens at Tk 190 million, Australian citizens at Tk 70 million, Canadian citizens at Tk 40 million, Singaporean citizens at Tk 60 million, Japanese citizens at Tk 50 million, EU citizens at Tk 60 million, Chinese citizens at Tk 60 million, and citizens of other countries at Tk 53 million.
