Foreign Investment Soars, Boosts BD Economic

In the first quarter of 2025, Bangladesh had a notable increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) despite domestic difficulties and political upheavals. Data from the Bangladesh Bank indicates that net foreign direct investment (FDI) increased by 114.31 percent to $864.63 million during the January-March quarter of this year compared to the same period last year. Compared to the preceding quarter (October-December 2024), it is significantly higher by 76.31 percent.

Additionally, equity investment rose sharply to $304.38 million. Analysts claim that the government’s investment-friendly policies have contributed to this upward trend in addition to the growing trust of foreign investors.

BIDA, BEZA, and the Bangladesh Bank have stated their focus on executing high-impact projects, enhancing one-stop services, and attracting significant investments.

The ‘Bangladesh Investment Summit-2025’ saw participation from 415 foreign representatives across 50 countries, resulting in investment proposals totaling approximately Tk 3,100 crore.

As outlined in the National Economic Zone Master Plan, there is an initiative to establish 20 new economic zones by 2046. This master plan, funded by the World Bank, aims to facilitate infrastructure development and bolster investor confidence.

In the meantime, BEPZA has reported an investment of $292.77 million for the current fiscal year, along with the signing of 33 new agreements, which are expected to create employment for around 59 thousand individuals. Companies from various nations, including China, South Korea, India, and the United Arab Emirates, have engaged in these agreements.

Experts are of the opinion that if political stability and effective policy support are maintained, the flow of investments will further increase, providing a more robust foundation for the economy.
