Environment Department Dismantles Chimney of Illegal Brick Kiln in Gafargaon

Rayhan Ahmed, Mymensingh Correspondent : A mobile court was conducted against an illegal brick kiln in the Diargaon area of Gafargaon upazila in Mymensingh district through a joint initiative of the Department of Environment (DoE), Mymensingh District Office, and the Mymensingh District Administration.

The drive was led by Assistant Commissioner and learned Executive Magistrate Nurul Huda Monir under the provisions of the Brick Manufacturing and Brick Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2013 (amended in 2019). During the operation, it was found that Messrs MKD Bricks had been operating a brick kiln without prior approval from the Deputy Commissioner, in violation of the law.

As a result, the chimney of the illegal brick kiln was demolished, and the fire at the kiln was extinguished by the Fire Service. All operations of the brick kiln were also ordered to be shut down.

During the mobile court proceedings, Inspector Mohammad Rukan Mia of the Department of Environment, Mymensingh District Office, served as the prosecutor. Deputy Director of the DoE, Mymensingh District Office, Mohammad Saiful Islam, was present at the scene.

The Mymensingh District Police, Pagla Police Station, Gafargaon Fire Service and Civil Defence, and the Bangladesh Army provided overall assistance in conducting the operation. Deputy Director Saiful Islam stated that such drives would continue in the public interest.
