Enhanced deposit-loan distribution through agent banking

Every sign of agent banking is increasing. This service has seen an growth in the quantity of deposits and loans disbursed. The quantity of accounts has also grown concurrently. These numbers were revealed in Bangladesh Bank’s most recent report update.

According to the Bangladesh Bank data, there were 23,489,109 account holders in agency banking as of the end of September 2024. There were 24,078,230 account holders in agency banking three months later, at the end of December. As a result, in just three months, there are already 5,89,121 more accounts.

There were 39,529.36 crore taka in agency banking deposits as of the end of September of last year. The total amount of deposits at the end of December was 41,955.14 crore taka. In other words, over the course of three months, the amount of deposits in agency banking rose by 2,426 crore taka, or 6.14 percent.

The total amount of loans disbursed through agent banking at the end of September of the previous year was 21,940 crore taka. At the end of December, three months later, the loan disbursement sum was Tk 24,280 crore. As a result, the loan disbursement balance rose by Tk 2,938 crore, or 13.93 percent, during the course of the three months.

The remaining amount of expatriate revenue from agent banking at the end of September was Tk 1 crore 6 lakh 56 thousand.
