Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, the interim government’s advisor on electricity, energy, and mineral resources, said that Sheikh Bashiruddin, the trade advisor, has proven beneficial in talks to reduce countervailing duties with the United States.
“From guaranteeing the stability of domestic product pricing to achieving successful tariff discussions with the United States, he (Trade Advisor) has demonstrated his competence, much to the surprise of his opponents,” Advisor Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan wrote on Facebook on Friday, August 1.
Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin has spearheaded the final negotiations with officials from the United States Trade Representative (USTR) in Washington to decrease the countervailing duties imposed by the US administration. On Thursday, US local time, President Donald Trump enacted a 20 percent countervailing duty on goods imported from Bangladesh through an executive order. This order also included countervailing duties on numerous other countries.
