A new trust fund titled ‘Alhaj Anwar Hossain Merit Scholarship Trust Fund’ has been established at the University of Dhaka in memory of the legendary entrepreneur late Anwar Hossain, who founded Anwar Group of Industries.

Manwar Hossain, Chairman of Anwar Group, handed over a check for Tk. 20 lakh to DU Treasurer, Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, on Tuesday, November 21. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. S. M Maksud Kamal was the chief guest at the ceremony held at the VC Lounge.

Out of the income of this trust fund every year, 10 meritorious and financially challenged students of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at DU will be given the ‘Alhaj Anwar Hossain Merit Scholarship’.

DU VC Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal said he hopes that meritorious as well as financially challenged students of the DU Engineering of Technology Faculty will be highly benefited and inspired by this trust fund.

Chairman of Anwar Group, Manwar Hossain, declared in the meeting that 10 students of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at DU would also be provided internships in their different industries.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at DU, Prof. Dr. Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu, Chairpersons of several departments of the university, Vice-Chairman of Anwar Group Hossain Mehmood, Managing Director of Anwar Group Hossain Khaled, DU Registrar Probir Kumar Sarker, and Director PRD, Mahmood Alam, were also present on this occasion.
