The market capitalization of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) increased by Tk 7,049 crore during the week ended July 24, supported by broad-based gains in key indices and higher trading activity.
According to the DSE’s weekly market update, the exchange’s total market capitalization rose by 1% to Tk 710,883 crore at the close of the week, up from Tk 703,834 crore a week earlier.
All major DSE indices ended the week higher. The benchmark DSEX index gained 96.30 points, or 1.66%, while the DSES index advanced 17.75 points, or 1.49%. The DS30 index climbed 49.87 points, representing a 2.29% increase.
Trading activity also improved during the week. Total turnover on the DSE reached Tk 7,374.24 crore, compared with Tk 6,919.27 crore in the previous week, marking an increase of Tk 454.97 crore. The average daily turnover rose 6.58% to Tk 1,474.84 crore from Tk 1,383.85 crore.
A total of 389 listed companies and mutual fund units were traded on the DSE. Share prices increased for 216 companies, declined for 155, and remained unchanged for 18.
Meanwhile, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also posted gains in its major indices. The CASPI and CSCX indices rose by 1.93% and 2.18%, respectively, while the CSE-30, CSI, and CSE-50 indices also recorded weekly advances.
However, trading value on the CSE declined to Tk 168.93 crore from Tk 189.95 crore in the previous week, a decrease of Tk 21.02 crore. During the week, 339 companies and mutual fund units were traded on the CSE, with prices rising for 199 issues, falling for 118, and remaining unchanged for 22.
