B Mirror Report : Both of the nation’s stock markets saw price index increases over the last week (December 27–January 1), which led to an increase in investor portfolios and total investment. Investment rose by Tk 3,906 crore during the week, but turnover decreased by 1%.
It was learned that at the beginning of the week, market capitalization at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) stood at Tk 6,76,873 crore. After trading on the last working day of the week, market capitalization rose to Tk 6,80,779 crore. This means investors’ portfolios increased by Tk 3,906 crore, or 0.57 percent, over the week.
During the outgoing week, total turnover at the DSE amounted to Tk 1,417.26 crore, compared to Tk 1,434.67 crore in the previous week. As a result, weekly turnover at the DSE declined by Tk 17.42 crore, or 1 percent.
Over the week, the DSE’s main index, DSEX, rose by 27 points, or 0.55 percent, to stand at 4,911 points. Among other indices, the Shariah index fell by 3 points, or 0.26 percent, to 1,006 points.
During the week, shares and units of a total of 389 companies were traded on the DSE. Of these, prices increased for 231 companies (33.67 percent), decreased for 113 companies (29.04 percent), and remained unchanged for 45 companies (11.56 percent).
In the other stock market, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), weekly turnover stood at Tk 41.43 crore during the outgoing week. Over the week, the CSE’s overall index, CASPI, rose by 50 points, or 0.36 percent, to 13,692 points.
252 companies shares and units were traded on the CSE during the week. Prices increased for 124 businesses, decreased for 105 businesses, and stayed the same for 23 businesses.
