Noakhali Correspondent: World Mental Health Day 2025 was celebrated in Noakhali with the theme ‘Access to mental health services in catastrophic and emergency situations’.
On the occasion of the day, a colorful rally was taken out in the district town on Thursday (October 16) morning under the initiative of the Civil Surgeon’s Office.
The rally started from the Civil Surgeon’s Office premises and circled the main roads of the city. People from different classes and professions, including officials and employees of government and private organizations, doctors, nurses, students, participated in it. After the rally, a discussion meeting was held at the Civil Surgeon’s Office.
The speakers at the meeting said that along with physical health, mental health is equally important. Family and society must come forward to deal with mental stress, anxiety and depression. According to the 2018-19 survey, 18.7 percent of the country’s adults are suffering from some kind of mental illness. Among children and adolescents, the rate is 12.6 percent. But very few people are receiving treatment. About 92 percent of adults and 94 percent of children have never been covered by mental health services. They neither take medicine nor undergo counseling.
During this time, the guests discussed in detail the importance of mental health, the significance of World Mental Health Day and what can be done to protect the mental well-being of students for the students. In addition, as part of the seminar, depression, anxiety and stress free assessment activities were organized for the students. At the same time, a self-awareness workshop was conducted, where students learned various techniques to be aware of their own mental state.
Noakhali Civil Surgeon Dr. Maryam Simi, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operation) Mohammad Ibrahim, Assistant Professor (Psychiatry) of Noakhali Medical College Dr. Kamrun Nahar, Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Naima Nusrat Jabin, Senior Health Education Officer Md. Saifuddin Mahmud Chowdhury and other officials of the Civil Surgeon’s Office were present at the event.
