B Mirror Report : The Cartogram Port Authority (CPA) has taken an initiative to introduce an automated system aimed at accelerating and ensuring transparency in export-import operations at the country’s premier seaport.
As part of the move, CPA has appointed Magnetic Tech Limited on an outsourcing basis under a revenue-sharing model to implement a new service point titled the “CPA Agent Desk System.” Alongside this, a web-based platform has been developed to facilitate export-import documentation services for port users.
CPA Secretary Omar Faruk told BSS today that, in addition to data entry related to export-import activities and delivery order processing, the newly launched help point will provide comprehensive documentation services. These include correction of Bills of Lading (BL), Export General Manifests (EGM), and Import General Manifests (IGM).
CPA sources said the development of a payment gateway required for the effective operation of the system has been completed successfully, and the service is now accessible online.
Key stakeholders such as shipping agents, freight forwarders, and clearing and forwarding (C&F) agents have already been informed about the operational procedures, practice manual, and advantages of the new system.
According to CPA officials, the automated system is expected to bring greater dynamism to overall port management, reduce processing costs, and simplify documentation procedures through a hassle-free online platform.
Officials further expressed optimism that the successful implementation of the system would enhance transparency, expand digital port operations, and strengthen the international image of the Chattogram Port.
CPA data show that from January to October 2025, the port handled 2.849 million and 542 TEUs of containers, 115.067 million metric tonnes of cargo, and 3,552 vessels. Compared to the same period in 2024, this reflects an increase of 132,328 TEUs of containers, 12.908 million metric tonnes of cargo, and 351 additional ships.
The growth rate during the period stood at 4.87 percent in container handling, 12.64 percent in cargo handling, and 10.97 percent in ship handling, CPA sources added.
