Capital Market Transforming Gradually: Shaifur Rahman

EDU BBA Students Attend ‘Understanding Business’ Educational Tour at CSE

Chattogram Correspondent: Bangladesh’s capital market is gradually transforming, said Md. Shaifur Rahman Mazumdar, FCA, FCMA, Managing Director of Chittagong Stock Exchange PLC (CSE). He noted that development initiatives are ongoing and the impact will become visible in the coming days. Given the current global context, he emphasized the need to enhance multidimensional skills.

He made these remarks on Thursday (4 December) during an educational tour organized for students of the Business Administration Department of East Delta University (EDU) at the CSE office in Agrabad, Chattogram. Around 65 students took part in the program. The initiative aimed to provide practical exposure and real-world understanding of the capital market, helping students enhance their knowledge and skills.

CSE Managing Director Md. Shaifur Rahman Mazumdar said, “To fully grasp the entire mechanism of the capital market, one must understand all the related aspects thoroughly. The more you learn, the more skilled you become. Alongside academic education, practical learning is also crucial. The capital market is a place where capital is invested as well as raised for new ventures. The market operates through technical and regulatory frameworks, so it is essential to acquire proper knowledge of these areas and prepare accordingly.”

CSE officials present at the event included Chief Regulatory Officer (CRO) Mohammad Mahadi Hasan, Deputy General Manager and Head of Clearing (Settlement & Listing Compliance) AKM Shahroze Alam, and Manager of TREC Compliance Adnan Abdur Rakib. The session was conducted by M. Sadequ Ahmed, Head of Training and Awareness. Representing EDU’s Business Administration Department was Professor A. Kaiyum Chowdhury.

Speakers briefed the students on existing and upcoming products in Bangladesh’s capital market. They also discussed financial planning, risk, and return associated with the capital market to help students become more aware and enhance their financial knowledge and skills. To provide an overall understanding of the capital market and practical operations, M. Sadequ Ahmed delivered a presentation. Afterward, the CRO and other departmental heads answered various questions from the students. At the end of the program, students visited different departments of the exchange to gain a comprehensive understanding.
