BSEC Chairman and Commissioners blocked by officials and employees

The chairman, commissioner and several senior officials of the capital market regulator Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) have been blocked. Junior officials of the commission blocked the senior officials in the office after 11 am today, Wednesday. As of last news (1:15 pm), the top officials are still blocked.

The junior officials are observing this program today to protest the compulsory retirement of BSEC Executive Director Saifur Rahman. BSEC Chairman Khandaker Rashed Maqsood announced this mandatory decision in an order on Tuesday. Saifur Rahman was made OSD after the new authorities joined BSEC. Now he has been sent to retirement.

According to commission sources, it was decided yesterday to send BSEC Executive Director Saifur Rahman on compulsory retirement. BSEC Chairman Khandaker Rashed Maqsud issued an order in this regard yesterday. After that, a large number of officials and employees have surrounded the top officials today.

A BSEC official, who did not want to be named, said that they are under siege. In this situation, it is not even possible to talk about allowing anyone to enter. When contacted, several executive directors said that junior officials have surrounded them with various demands. They are even harassing some of the top officials by calling them the current chairman’s agents. Although we went to the BSEC office in Agargaon in the capital to find out about the matter on the spot, we could not enter. Several police teams have visited the office.
