Nurul Amin Khan Sylhet Bureau Chief : Farmers in Paikraj Technology Village, Sadar Upazila, Sylhet, have received BRRI Nirani machines under the Location-Specific Rice Varieties and Technology Development (LSTD) project. The distribution was successfully organized under the supervision of the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) Satellite Station in Sylhet.
The event was attended by Dr. Md. Rezaan Bhuiya, Chief and Senior Scientific Officer of BRRI Satellite Station, Sylhet, Scientific Officer Mosa. Abida Sultana, and Sadar Upazila’s Assistant Agriculture Officer Md. Fazle Manjur Bhuiya.
Dr. Rezaan Bhuiya stated that the LSTD project delivers modern agricultural technologies directly to farmers’ doorsteps, boosting rice production and making farming more sustainable and profitable.
Scientific Officer Mosa. Abida Sultana explained that using the Nirani machine allows farmers to keep their fields weed-free in less time and at lower cost, reducing labor while improving both yield quantity and quality.
Assistant Agriculture Officer Md. Fazle Manjur Bhuiya added that such support is vital for farmers, as the Nirani machine simplifies land care and has a positive impact on crop yields.
Local farmers expressed that the machines help clear fields quickly and efficiently, saving labor and time, lowering production costs, and ensuring higher output.
The initiative was implemented under the visionary planning and overall guidance of LSTD Project Director Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain. Experts hope that such efforts will make rice production more sustainable, profitable, and environmentally friendly, while improving farmers’ livelihoods. This program is being recognized as a significant milestone in location-specific technology dissemination under the LSTD project.
