BIA Asks to Defer Meetings on Insurance Law Amendments

B Mirror Report : The Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance has arranged two meetings to review the proposed Insurer Regulation Ordinance, 2025 put forward by the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) and the draft amendments to the Insurance Act, 2010.

However, the Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA) has requested that the meetings be held after the elections, as its president, Sayed Ahmed, is currently busy with election-related activities.

In a letter sent on Thursday (January 18) to the Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance, the association stated that two meetings are scheduled to be held on Monday (January 19) at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm at the IDRA conference room. The meetings are to be chaired by Md. Sadik Qutub, Additional Secretary (Insurance and Capital Market Wing) of the Financial Institutions Division. However, the association has requested a postponement of the meetings due to the unavailability of its president.

The letter further said that BIA President Sayed Ahmed is contesting as a Member of Parliament candidate in the 13th National Parliamentary Election and is currently staying outside Dhaka. As the meetings are of critical importance, his presence is considered essential. Therefore, the BIA has specifically requested that the meetings be rescheduled for a convenient time after the election.
