Narayanganj:
The King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, visited the Bangladesh Special Economic Zone in Araihazar, Narayanganj on Wednesday morning.
The King arrived at the zone at 11:15 AM and was received by a delegation of Bangladeshi officials. He was given a tour of the zone and briefed on its operations.
The King expressed his satisfaction with the zone and its potential to attract investment and create jobs. He said that the zone was a valuable asset for Bangladesh and that he was confident that it would play a significant role in the country’s economic development.
The King was accompanied by a number of Bhutanese officials, including the Foreign Minister and the Economic Affairs Minister.
They were also joined by a number of Bangladeshi officials, including the Jatiya Sangsad Whip Nazrul Islam Babu MP, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sabirul Islam, Dhaka Range DIG Syed Nurul Islam, Deputy Commissioner Mahmudul Haque, District Police Superintendent Golam Mostafa Russell, Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Ishtiaq Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Araihazar Police Station were present. (OC) Ahsan Ullah, and other officials.
The King is currently on a four-day visit to Bangladesh to attend the country’s Independence Day celebrations. He is scheduled to depart Bangladesh on March 28 via the Burimari border crossing.
This is the King’s first visit to Narayanganj. He previously visited Bangladesh in 2013.
