BM Desk :The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) plans to launch a significant effort to broaden the influence of the nation’s ready-made garments and textile industry an essential component of the national economy by promoting company listings on the stock exchange
To achieve this goal, BGMEA is planning to jointly organize a seminar with the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE). The main objective of the seminar is to raise awareness among garment sector entrepreneurs about the stock market and encourage long-term investments.
On Thursday (October 16), a DSE delegation led by Chairman Mominul Islam met with BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka. During the meeting, both sides discussed increasing collaboration, facilitating the listing of potential companies, and improving corporate governance.
BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan stated, “We want to see the capital market grow further. We will organize a seminar with interested companies to raise awareness about the stock market and help them find paths toward sustainable investment.” He also mentioned that BGMEA could provide a preliminary certificate or No Objection Certificate (NOC) to assist in verifying the financial and structural transparency of companies before listing.
He added, “In the future, we want vertically integrated companies to be listed on the stock market and set examples of transparent and credible business practices.”
DSE Chairman Mominul Islam welcomed the initiative, saying, “We want the capital market to become stronger and contribute to the economy as a source of long-term capital. To this end, we are working on strengthening corporate governance, improving management structures, and enhancing coordination with regulators and associations.”
He described BGMEA as an important partner and expressed optimism about expanding the stock market through joint efforts. He also noted that the DSE is transitioning from being just a regulatory body to becoming a customer-centric service provider.
DSE’s Acting Managing Director Mohammad Asadur Rahman supported the initiative, saying, “DSE and BGMEA can jointly organize a seminar that highlights the opportunities and benefits of listing on the main market, SME Board, and Alternative Trading Board (ATB). This will encourage entrepreneurs in the garment sector to participate in the capital market.”
The high-level meeting was attended by DSE Directors Major General (Retd.) Mohammad Kamruzzaman, Richard D. Rosario, Minhaj Mannan Emon, as well as BGMEA Senior Vice President Enamul Haque Khan, Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, and other senior officials from both organizations.
