Bangladesh Bank has introduced a Bangla QR-based person-to-person (P2P) transaction facility, allowing individuals to transfer money by scanning QR codes instead of manually entering mobile phone or bank account numbers.
The new service was launched on Sunday, November 1, as part of the central bank’s efforts to expand digital payment facilities and reduce reliance on cash transactions.
According to a Bangladesh Bank statement, the initiative comes four months after the introduction of the Customer-to-Merchant (C2M) Bangla QR platform.
With the new facility, users can send money to another individual by scanning the recipient’s QR code and verifying the necessary transaction details. The system is designed to make money transfers quicker, easier and more secure.
Previously, customers had to manually enter the recipient’s mobile number or bank account details to complete such transactions. The QR-based system is expected to simplify this process and reduce the chances of errors.
Central bank officials said the facility would make everyday financial transactions more convenient and encourage people to adopt digital payment methods.
The initiative is also expected to reduce cash handling, expand access to digital financial services and strengthen the country’s transition towards a more inclusive and cashless payment ecosystem.
