B Mirror Report: Bangladesh’s efforts to build a more sustainable, transparent and globally competitive apparel industry will take centre stage at BATEXPO 2026, with a dedicated ‘Impact Zone’ showcasing advances in responsible manufacturing across the ready-made garment (RMG) sector.
The initiative will highlight the industry’s ongoing transition towards environmentally friendly production, improved worker welfare and greater transparency in global supply chains, as international buyers and regulators place increasing emphasis on sustainability.
The Impact Zone will feature initiatives in decarbonisation, renewable energy, recycling, circular production and resource efficiency. It will also highlight programmes supporting gender equity, workers’ health and nutrition, childcare facilities and maternal care.
Digital traceability will be another key focus, particularly the Digital Product Passport (DPP), which is gaining importance as the European Union (EU) introduces evolving regulatory requirements and global supply chains demand greater transparency.
According to a press release issued by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the initiative is designed to demonstrate how the country’s apparel industry is moving beyond traditional compliance practices to adopt more advanced and responsible manufacturing standards.
BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan said the Impact Zone would reflect the sector’s transformation amid growing global priorities around climate action, resource efficiency and the circular economy.
He said the initiative would present Bangladesh’s journey towards responsible industrial development and a stronger leadership position in international apparel markets.
BGMEA Vice President Vidiya Amrit Khan, who is spearheading the initiative, said the industry needed to prepare not only to comply with changing global sustainability standards but also to lead the shift towards responsible manufacturing.
She said the Impact Zone would showcase Bangladesh’s progress in decarbonisation, circularity, worker wellbeing and digital traceability, including the Digital Product Passport.
The initiative aims to strengthen Bangladesh’s position as a reliable, forward-looking partner as the global apparel industry moves towards more sustainable production practices.
Organised by BGMEA, with PDS as the title sponsor, BATEXPO 2026 will take place on November 18–19 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka.
