Bangladesh India move to boost stock market cooperation

B Mirror Report: India has expressed keen interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation and sharing its expertise to support the development of Bangladesh’s capital market.

Indian Assistant High Commissioner Dr. Rajeev Ranjan made the remarks during a visit to the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) in Agrabad on Sunday, according to a press release issued by the bourse.

During the visit, the Managing Director of CSE presented a strategic roadmap for the advancement of Bangladesh’s stock market. The plan highlighted prospects for joint initiatives with India, including market diversification, the introduction of product-based derivatives, and expansion into new asset classes.

Dr. Ranjan underscored the vision of transforming CSE into a multi-asset class exchange and invited Indian investors and brokers to explore investment opportunities in Bangladesh.

He noted that India’s long-standing experience in capital markets could play a meaningful role in Bangladesh’s growth. Strengthening collaboration through joint technical sessions, specialized workshops, and knowledge transfer programmes could further enhance the country’s financial market, he added.

Referring to India’s institutional expertise, Dr. Ranjan mentioned that the experience of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) could serve as effective models for CSE. In particular, India’s strength in commodity derivatives could significantly contribute to price discovery and risk management in Bangladesh.

On bilateral ties, he said India views Bangladesh not only as a neighbor but also as a development partner, expressing optimism that the two countries will continue to move forward together.

CSE Chairman AKM Habibur Rahman, board directors Major (retd) Emdadul Islam, Shahzada Mahmud Chowdhury and Naznin Sultana, along with Managing Director M Saifur Rahman Mazumder and other senior officials, were present during the visit.
