Bangladesh has deepened its collaboration with Germany to accelerate the country’s shift toward a clean, low-carbon energy future, as highlighted at the “Conference on Innovations and Partnerships for Sustainable Energy Transition,” held on 15 November 2025 at Hall 5 (Pushpanjali) of the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka.
Organised by CEMS-Global in partnership with GIZ Bangladesh, the full-day flagship event brought together development partners, policymakers, financial institutions and private-sector leaders to explore pathways for advancing sustainable energy systems and reducing carbon emissions across the country.
The conference took place alongside the 27th Power Bangladesh International Expo 2025, the 22nd Solar Bangladesh International Expo 2025 and the 7th Dhaka International Lighting Expo 2025—collectively the nation’s largest platform for showcasing advancements in power generation, renewable technologies and next-generation lighting solutions.
Germany’s long-standing cooperation with Bangladesh was a central theme throughout the discussions. Through GIZ Bangladesh, Germany continues to support renewable energy expansion, improved grid integration, energy-efficiency initiatives, e-mobility development and green skills training. These efforts aim to strengthen Bangladesh’s clean-energy ecosystem and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Speakers highlighted that German development cooperation is playing a crucial role in strengthening institutional capacity, fostering innovation and supporting policy dialogues. The partnership also focuses on building a skilled green workforce through enhanced technical and vocational education, ensuring local talent can lead the transition to a climate-resilient and inclusive energy future.
The conference featured four thematic sessions addressing key priorities in Bangladesh’s green transition:
- Green Cooling, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (9:30–11:00am): Experts stressed the need for integrated strategies to reduce emissions through efficient cooling systems, expanded renewable generation and improved industrial energy management.
- Fostering Synergy for Green Skills Development (11:30am–1:00pm): Representatives from the World Bank, Brac and the ILO highlighted the importance of industry-aligned training to prepare a skilled workforce for the green economy.
- Private Sector Participation in Rooftop Solar (2:00–3:20pm): Discussions focused on innovative business models, investment opportunities and regulatory support needed to scale rooftop solar installations nationwide.
- Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs): The Next Frontier for Green Industry (3:30–4:30pm): Speakers from City Bank, the EU Delegation, ib vogt APAC, BPDB and H&M emphasised the role of CPPAs in providing industries with reliable and cost-effective clean electricity, positioning them as a key tool for industrial decarbonisation.
Throughout the event, participants called for stronger collaboration among government agencies, development partners and the private sector to accelerate Bangladesh’s green transition. Discussions highlighted the critical importance of renewable energy expansion, green finance, skills development, rooftop solar and innovative procurement tools like CPPAs.
CEMS-Global and GIZ Bangladesh reaffirmed their commitment to advancing innovation, strengthening institutional capacity and supporting policy dialogue to help Bangladesh achieve a cleaner, more resilient and inclusive energy future.
