Jhenaidah Correspondent: With the slogan “In the unity of youth, a corruption-free Bangladesh,” an anti-corruption debate competition was held in Jhenaidah. The event took place on Monday morning at Kanchannagar Model School and College, organized by the District Corruption Prevention Committee (DUPROC).
The topic of the debate was “Strict punishment is the best solution to prevent corruption.” Debaters from Kanchannagar Model School and College and Municipal Model School and College participated, presenting arguments both for and against the motion.
The proposition team argued that strict punishment is necessary to instill fear among corrupt individuals, which would deter large-scale corruption. The opposition team, however, emphasized that awareness, moral values, and transparency are more effective for long-term corruption control than punishment alone.
At the end of the competition, trophies were awarded to the winning and runner-up teams.
Speakers at the event included Farid Udd Islam, lecturer of Government K.C. College, Assistant Professor Fazle Rabbi, former DUPROC general secretary N.M. Shahjalal, and current convener Babul Kumar Kundoo, among others.
Organizers stated that such programs help strengthen anti-corruption awareness among students, inspiring them to become responsible and ethical leaders in the future.
