An Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) training workshop was recently organized in Moulvibazar for local bankers, jointly hosted by the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) and Prime Bank PLC.
As the lead bank, Prime Bank arranged the workshop titled “Combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (AML & CFT)”, which brought together 90 participants from various scheduled banks operating in Moulvibazar district.
The event’s chief guest was Mr. Md. Mostakur Rahman, Director of BFIU. The technical sessions were conducted by BFIU’s experienced resource persons, including Additional Director Mr. Sajjad Hossain, Joint Director Mr. Md. Imanur Hasan, and Deputy Director Mr. Md. Mushfiqur Islam.
The program was chaired by Mr. Md. Ziaur Rahman, DMD and Chief Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Officer of Prime Bank PLC. Also present were Mr. Md. Iqbal Hossain, DMD of Prime Bank, and Mr. Humayun Kabir, Regional Head of Prime Bank’s Sylhet Region.
The workshop covered key topics related to money laundering and terrorist financing, such as relevant laws and regulations, Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures, transaction monitoring, and measures to prevent credit- and trade-based money laundering.
To enhance participant engagement, an interactive quiz competition was held following the training sessions. The program concluded with prize distribution for top performers and certificate handover to all participants.
In closing remarks, both Prime Bank PLC and BFIU reiterated their commitment to strengthening the banking sector’s preparedness in combating money laundering and terrorist financing risks, in alignment with national laws and international standards.
