The amount of money stolen during the previous Awami League government is equal to the entire income of the country for almost one and a half years. Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin commented that all government institutions have been destroyed while committing this theft.
Regarding the increase in the price of soybean oil, the advisor said, “We have recently increased the price of soybean oil. However, although it was difficult for the common buyer, it was necessary for the reality. If we did not do this, a massive crisis would have created in the market, and the shortage would have increased. That is why we are now thinking of reducing the price of some other product to adjust it.”
He said these things in his speech as the chief guest at the ‘ERF-Pran Media Award-2024’ ceremony at the ERF auditorium on Tuesday (December 10).
Sheikh Bashiruddin said that the 28 lakh crore taka that was mentioned in the white paper report in the last 15 years was done by a few people in that government. This money is equal to the entire income of people from all walks of life in our country for one and a half years. The institutions that have been destroyed in this are now unable to function properly. They need to be reformed.
He said that due to this theft, agriculture-related institutions have also been destroyed. Due to which a big problem has arisen, the information that these institutions provide is inconsistent. As a result, when we are making decisions on various issues based on that information on production or demand, we are facing problems.
The Commerce Advisor said that the agricultural industry creates an ecosystem in the country. Which is very important for an agricultural country. It plays a big role in the country’s supply chain, which is now being disrupted.
He also said that the job of the Commerce Ministry is to maintain the necessary supply against supply and shortage. That is why we recently increased the price of soybean oil. However, although it was difficult for the common buyer, it was necessary for the reality. If this was not done, a massive crisis would have arisen in the market, and the shortage would have increased. That is why we are now thinking of adjusting the price of some other product by reducing it
The advisor expressed hope that the prices of the product will remain low in the upcoming Ramadan and said, “The food market will remain stable or even downward during Ramadan. We hope that the supply of all necessary products including dates, chickpeas, and pulses will remain normal during this time. We have that preparation.”
Stating that there are some failures with potatoes, the advisor said, “We are accepting this and preparing well for next year. We are working to increase production and create alternative markets.”
