Akij hurried drive to build a Corona Virus Hospital (CVH) at city’s Tejgaon area was a stunt by the multi billionaire group to re-occupy its valuable land from local people.
Local people are also obstructing build such a sensitive specialized hospital at the densely populated areas.
Meanwhile, the group has not any legal approval from Health Ministry; even they never apply to the ministry for building such a sensitive private hospital here.
“Construction of a specialized hospital needs at least 15 months to complete. Many of its proposed hospital equipments are to be imported from abroad” Eng. Trequl Gani, an expert on medical infrastructure engineering told Business Mirror Monday.
If the want to set emergency hospital to treat Corona patient they would use their 14th floor factory building which is now empty and located in the same area.
If the company start constructing a specialized hospital from today it takes at least six months to reach necessary equipments from Taiwan or South Korea. Gani Aded.
Local Commissioner Mosharaff Hosain said Business Mirror Monday that local people do not want to allow a Corona Virus Hospital at a place which is the most densely populated area in the world.
“If my people do not want to establish here even a heaven I should not allow it and I should promote my peoples demand and raise voice against it who ever powerful group they are,”
Our MP who is also the Home Minister Asaduzzaman Kan Kamal has talked the Managing Director of the Group and asked them to bring Ministry approval.

But if my people do not want to build a specialized hospital here we will bare them constructing it, Mosharaff added.
Akij Group has resumed construction of its sCVH a day after it was postponed in the face of violent protests by local residents.
“Following misunderstanding on Saturday, it was agreed that the project is part of a noble initiative and so the hospital will be built there on a temporary basis,” Tejgaon police station OC Md Ali Hossain said.
A team of police has been deployed in the area and the misunderstanding over the matter has been settled.
Tejgaon locals demonstrated at the construction site on Saturday, prompting business conglomerate Akij Group to halt the works.
Earlier, Akij Group’s Managing Director Sheikh Bashir Uddin told the hospital would be built on the conglomerate’s empty plot next to the factory of motorcycle makers TVS in Tejgaon.
The conglomerate annual turnover is over US$2.0 billion with 31 different industrial units and 35000 employees.
