Chattogram, Correspondent: Chairman of Japan’s Aisin Corporation, Mr. Haraguchi, recently visited Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL), reaffirming his company’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s shipbuilding industry through advanced safety measures and technical cooperation.

During the visit, CDDL Managing Director Captain Abul Hasnat Modasswer, PSC, BN, was present. Following the inspection, a discussion meeting was held where Mr. Haraguchi highlighted Bangladesh’s strong potential to emerge as a major shipbuilding hub due to its strategic geographical location.

He stressed the urgent need to implement internationally compliant safety protocols to fully harness this potential. Describing CDDL as a model site with structured Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), he expressed interest in developing it as a pilot destination for enhanced safety initiatives.

Mr. Haraguchi also proposed a technical training program in Japan for CDDL technicians. The initiative aims to transfer advanced coating technologies, safety management practices, and quality control techniques potentially at no cost.

Additionally, he showed interest in recruiting skilled Bangladeshi technicians for Japan, promoting long-term knowledge transfer and productivity improvements. Representing the Bangladesh Navy, Captain Hasnat welcomed the delegation and expressed strong support for joint efforts to enhance shipyard safety and technical capacity.

Welcoming Aisin’s cooperation, Captain Modasswer said that any future collaboration would be facilitated through the Japan-Bangla Bridge Corporation.

The meeting, held on Thursday (April 2), was supported by Japan Bangla Bridge Recruiting Agency (JBBRA). Discussions also covered potential employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled workers from CDDL in Japanese shipyards through the agency.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Haraguchi handed over 200 industrial-grade safety masks on behalf of Aisin Corporation.
