ICB takes action against official, issues warnings under RTI act

The Information Commission Bangladesh (ICB) has directed the initiation of departmental action against the director of Rangpur Medical College for intentionally causing delays in providing information.

This order was issued by Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Dr Abdul Malek and Information Commissioners Shahidul Alam Jhinuk and Masuda Bhatti under the Right to Information Act following hearings on the matters on Monday.

The ICB has mandated reporting the issue to the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the Secretary of the Health Services Division.

Simultaneously, the commission has issued a warning to a director of the Rangpur Divisional Family Planning Office for deliberately obstructing the information-providing process. It has instructed reporting this matter to the Director General of the Family Planning Directorate and the Secretary of the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division.

Furthermore, the General Manager of Meghna Petroleum Limited in Chattogram has received a warning from the commission for intentionally withholding information.

Today, the ICB addressed a total of 10 complaints, ensuring resolutions in line with the Right to Information Act.
