Moderate Earthquake Shakes Bangladesh

BM Report:

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck Bangladesh this morning, sending tremors through various parts of the country, including the capital city of Dhaka. The earthquake, which occurred at 9:05 am local time, was felt in Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Rangpur, Chuadanga, Noakhali, Kushtia, and other regions.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in Ramganj, a subdistrict in the southeastern part of the country. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) further specified the epicenter to be approximately 8 kilometers east-northeast of Ramganj upazila in Laxmipur district.

The sudden tremors caused widespread panic among residents, prompting many to rush out of their homes and buildings for safety. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or major damage to property as of yet.

Authorities are currently assessing the situation and monitoring for any potential aftershocks. Residents are advised to remain alert and follow official guidelines in the event of further seismic activity.

This earthquake serves as a reminder of Bangladesh’s vulnerability to earthquakes, as the country lies within an active seismic zone. It is crucial for the government, disaster management agencies, and the public to be well-prepared for such events and take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage and loss of life.
