Bangladesh Bank, Community Bank Sign Participation Agreement under Tk. 3,000 Crore Refinance Scheme

Initiative to Support Agriculture-Based Economic Hub in Northern Bangladesh

Dhaka, 31 August 2026: With a view to developing an agriculture-based special economic hub in Northern Bangladesh and accelerating economic activities in the region, Bangladesh Bank and Community Bank Bangladesh PLC. have signed a Participation Agreement under the Tk. 3,000 crore Refinance Fund.

The agreement signing ceremony, organized by the Agricultural Credit Department-2 of Bangladesh Bank, was attended by Dr. Md. Kabir Ahmed, Deputy Governor, Bangladesh Bank, as the Chief Guest. Arif Hossain Khan, Executive Director, Bangladesh Bank, attended the ceremony as the Special Guest. The event was chaired by A.K.M Sayduzzaman, Director (ACD-2), Bangladesh Bank.

Representing Community Bank Bangladesh PLC., Mohammed Emtiaz Uddin, Managing Director, and Sharif Hasan Mamun, SME & Agriculture Division, attended the ceremony.

Under the refinance facility, financing will be expanded for agricultural production, storage, marketing and processing in Northern Bangladesh, with a particular focus on strengthening the Agri Value Chain. The initiative is expected to create greater financing opportunities for agriculture-based entrepreneurs, enhance value addition in agricultural products, generate employment and stimulate broader economic activities across the region.

The initiative is also expected to facilitate a more integrated financing ecosystem covering the entire agricultural value chainfrom production and storage to processing and marketingthereby contributing to sustainable agricultural and economic development in Northern Bangladesh.
