AIBL appoints Liakat Ali Chowdhury vice chairman

Alhajj Liakat Ali Chowdhury has been elected as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC. He was unanimously elected at the 464th (Emergency) Meeting of the Board of Directors, held on Thursday, 16 July 2026.

Alhajj Liakat Ali Chowdhury was born into a respected Muslim family in Chattogram. He is a distinguished industrialist in Bangladesh’s ship-breaking industry and a well-known business leader. With his extensive experience, expertise, and visionary leadership, he has successfully managed business operations across various sectors, including ship breaking and recycling, real estate, oxygen production, and banking.

He currently serves as the Managing Partner of Asadi Steel Enterprise and Jamuna Ship Breakers (Ship Recycling Industry); Managing Director of Bangladesh Ship Breaking Limited and L&M Builders (Pvt.) Limited; Director of the Chattogram Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry; Proprietor of Regal Oxygen; and Founding Member of Southern University. He is also a Member of the Advisory Council of the Bangladesh Ship Breakers and Recyclers Association.

Beyond his business engagements, Alhajj Liakat Ali Chowdhury is actively involved with numerous national and international business, social, and professional organizations. He is widely recognized for his exemplary leadership, entrepreneurial excellence, and enduring contributions to the country’s industrial development and socio-economic progress.
