DSCC launches beautification drive to build clean green Dhaka

Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Md. Abdus Salam, has expressed his commitment to transform Dhaka into a clean and green city, likening the vision to maintaining one’s own home surroundings with care and responsibility.

He made the remarks on Thursday while inaugurating a beautification project along the road stretch from Gulistan Zero Point to Hotel InterContinental, including the Kakrail Mosque intersection. The initiative focuses on enhancing road medians and footpaths with greenery and aesthetic improvements.

As part of the project, the selected stretch is being developed as an “ideal and model road” in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of building a “Clean City, Green City.” In the first phase, 54 decorative flower tubs of various designs have been installed. These will feature a variety of flowering plants such as bougainvillea, ixora, oleander, portulaca, and kamini.

Highlighting the importance of public participation, the DSCC administrator stressed that ensuring cleanliness and protecting greenery cannot be achieved by authorities alone. “It is not possible for the city corporation or police to guard everything at all times. If we plant trees and others destroy them, the effort will not succeed,” he said. He urged residents to dispose of waste only in designated bins and to act responsibly toward the environment. He also encouraged every citizen to plant at least one tree.

Outlining future plans, Salam said the current phase of the project will be completed within a month. The next phase will focus on developing a more aesthetic environment in Dhanmondi residential areas and around its lakes. The beautification initiative will gradually be expanded across the entire city.

The DSCC administrator called for active cooperation from all residents to help turn Dhaka into a cleaner, greener metropolis. Senior officials of Dhaka South City Corporation were present at the inauguration ceremony.
