Commerce minister invites Canadian investment in solar sector

B Mirror Report :  Khandaker Abdul Muktadir today invited Canadian entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh’s solar power sector, describing it as a key driver of future bilateral trade growth.

The call was made when Ajit Singh met the minister at the Bangladesh Secretariat, according to a press release.

The meeting focused on strengthening long-term strategic ties by leveraging Bangladesh’s green energy transition and emerging technology sectors.

During the discussion, the minister highlighted the government’s priority on attracting both local and foreign investment in renewable energy. He noted that initiatives are already underway to achieve a target of 10,000 MW of solar power generation.

He assured that the government would provide necessary policy and institutional support to facilitate foreign investment in the sector.

The High Commissioner acknowledged the strong foundation of Bangladesh-Canada relations and emphasized the potential for expanding bilateral trade. He also pointed to the Bangladeshi diaspora in Canada as an important economic bridge between the two countries.

He said Canadian investors are showing growing interest in Bangladesh, particularly in agri-food, fintech, and renewable energy sectors, including solar power.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening economic cooperation and transforming diplomatic goodwill into tangible trade outcomes.

Additional Secretary (Export) of the Ministry of Commerce Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, among others, was present at the meeting.
