Mrinal Kanti Roy, Tangail Correspondent: The Customs, Excise and VAT Department has destroyed a large amount of tobacco products in Tangail.
On Thursday, April 16, local and foreign cigarettes, bidis, and jordas were found in a garbage dump in the Rabna Bypass area of Tangail, making them unfit for use and buried in the ground.
For the first time, under the leadership of Nirjhor Ahmed, Joint Commissioner of Dhaka (West) Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate and Convener of the Destruction Committee
Such exemplary programs are being adopted.
The overall supervision of the demolition activities was carried out by Subhash Chandra Bose, the member secretary of the committee and the divisional officer and assistant commissioner of the Customs, Excise and VAT Tangail Division.
Present at the ground destruction program, he said, “Under the seized tobacco product destruction program, the Tangail Customs, Excise and VAT Department has destroyed these damaged, rotten and unusable tobacco products that were legally confiscated, illegally marketed and left lying for a long time. Such activities will continue across our country. Everyone will have to work together to increase the country’s revenue. In addition, such programs will continue to reduce VAT evasion by traders and increase revenue.”

Police members, fire service and representatives of Tangail Municipality were present.
Revenue Officer Pulak Kanti Das and other officials were present at the exemplary demolition program.
It is known that 414,095 (Shalaka) cigarettes (of various brands), 23,500 (Shalaka) bidis and 57.60 kg of zarda were destroyed.
Earlier this morning, Dhaka (West) Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Joint Commissioner Nirjhor Ahmed presented this information to journalists through a press briefing at the Tangail Customs, Excise and VAT Divisional Officer’s Office.
