Beximco Pharma celebrates pohela boishakh with a pledge of ‘Khonar Bochon’

Leading pharmaceutical company Beximco Pharmaceuticals PLC has celebrated the Bangla New Year 1433 with a focus on the rich heritage of Bangla culture, health, dietary practices, and agriculture. The celebration, themed “Bochone Bachun’ (Live by Wisdom),” draws inspiration from the traditional Bochon of Khona.

According to historians, Khona, a learned Bengali woman believed to have lived between the 8th and 12th centuries, was renowned for her expertise in astronomy. She composed numerous verses offering guidance on agriculture, weather patterns, crop care, and everyday life. Over time, these sayings have become deeply embedded in rural life, with many farmers still relying on Khonar Bochon in their agricultural practices.

This year’s celebration by Beximco Pharma highlighted these themes of agriculture, lifestyle, and health science.

Khonar Bochon were prominently featured in the company’s calendars and office decorations, including lines such as: “Do not block light and air; do not suffer from illness,” “A farmer and fertile land together build a strong nation,” “Early to bed and early to rise keeps one away from the doctor,” and “Sow Aus paddy between late Chaitra and early Boishakh.”

Rabbur Reza, Chief Operating Officer of Beximco Pharmaceuticals said that Khonar Bochon are an integral part of Bengali history and culture. He noted that their relevance to health, diet, and lifestyle remains strong even today, continuing to guide generations toward healthier living.

He added, “It is from this belief that Beximco Pharma stands beside people. Our goal is to ensure a healthy life for the people of Bangladesh through science-based research, modern technology, and responsible pharmaceutical manufacturing. From prevention to treatment, we are working at every stage of healthcare with reliable and sustainable solutions.”

Expressing optimism for the new year, he said that the country will be able to write new stories of hope for a healthier future.
