B Mirror Report: A passenger bus plunged into the Padma River at Daulatdia ferry terminal in Rajbari’s Goalanda upazila on Wednesday afternoon, triggering fears of multiple casualties and prompting urgent rescue operations.

According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, the accident occurred while the bus was boarding a ferry at the ghat. Diving teams were immediately deployed to rescue passengers trapped inside the submerged vehicle, while additional units were dispatched from Dhaka to assist in the operation.

Police Superintendent of Rajbari, Mohammad Monjur Morshed, said authorities were informed of the incident, though no confirmed reports of casualties were available at the time.

Witnesses said the accident took place around 5:30pm at pontoon number 3, when a bus belonging to Showhardo Paribahan reportedly lost control and veered off into the river during boarding.

Several passengers managed to swim to safety, locals said, but many others remain unaccounted for, raising concerns that they may have drowned.

Residents in the area rushed to the scene and began initial rescue efforts before emergency responders arrived.

The total number of passengers on board the bus could not be immediately determined, and rescue operations were ongoing at the time of filing this report.
