Govt ensuring economic stability amid global pressure: Amir Khasru

B Mirror Report: Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said the government is working to maintain economic stability amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and growing global pressures.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after exchanging Eid greetings with leaders and activists from various sectors at his residence in the Mehedibagh area of the city.

Despite the challenging global situation, the minister said the government has taken steps to ensure a steady fuel supply, prevent transport fare hikes, and keep essential commodity prices under control to provide relief to the public.

He noted that alternative sources for fuel imports have been secured to ease pressure on the supply system. As a result, transportation services operated smoothly during the Eid holidays without any disruption or increase in fares. He added that the government is continuing efforts to sustain this stability.

However, Amir Khasru acknowledged that the government cannot fully control the external impacts of the Middle East conflict. Ensuring fuel availability and maintaining supply have become major challenges, he said.

He warned that if the conflict continues, global economic pressure could intensify and eventually affect the country. In this context, he called on people to remain patient, cooperative, and supportive.

The minister also said that this year’s Eid is being celebrated in a peaceful and festive atmosphere, which he attributed to people’s renewed sense of confidence. He expressed optimism about the country’s future and urged all to remain hopeful.

Highlighting the labour sector, he said there has been no unrest in the garment industry, as workers received their salaries and allowances in advance ahead of Ramadan and Eid—an improvement compared to previous years.

He also pointed to several government welfare initiatives, including the introduction of family and farmer cards, loan waivers for farmers, and financial assistance for religious leaders.

Reiterating his message, Amir Khasru urged the public to stay united and demonstrate restraint, cooperation, and empathy in facing the ongoing global challenges.
