B Mirror Report: Prime Minister Tarek Rahman inaugurated a program to provide monthly honorariums to mosque imams, muezzins, khadims, and other religious leaders on Saturday (March 14) at Osmani Smriti Auditorium in the capital.
The initiative also includes honorariums for khadims, priests, sevayets, and principals and vice-principals of viharas, marking a key electoral pledge of the government.
Earlier, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting stated that the program will cover 4,908 mosques, including their imams, muezzins, and khadims. Additionally, it will benefit 990 Hindu temples’ priests, 144 Buddhist viharas’ principals, and 396 churches’ priests and responsible personnel.
According to Jabiullah, advisor to the Prime Minister on Public Administration, under this pilot project, each mosque will receive 10,000 taka as honorarium. From this, imams will receive 5,000 taka, muezzins 3,000 taka, and khadims 2,000 taka.
The program aims to recognize the contributions of religious leaders and support their financial well-being across mosques, temples, viharas, and churches nationwide.
